The U.S. State Department on Thursday (October 9, 2025) said that U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources Michael J. Rigas have travelled to meet with government officials in Delhi to “discuss a wide range of bilateral issues”.
The two U.S. officials will hold talks with their counterparts till October 14, 2025.
“The United States will continue to work with India to strengthen our strategic partnership and promote a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Indo-Pacific region,” the statement read.
The U.S. Senate on October 8 had confirmed the nomination of Sergio Gor as Ambassador of the United States to India. Mr. Gor has also been appointed as U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy on South and Central Asia, a new post that did not require confirmation.
Officials did not indicate a date for Mr. Gor to take up his post as Ambassador in Delhi, but did not rule out his arrival in the next few weeks in his role as special envoy, ahead of a possible meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mr. Trump on the sidelines of the upcoming ASEAN-related summits in Kuala Lumpur on October 26-27, where they may repair ties and discuss scheduling the Quad summit.
