A shocking incident turned celebrations into chaos on Monday as a 53-year-old man drove a minivan into a crowd of football fans. The supporters had gathered in huge numbers to celebrate Liverpool’s 2024-25 Premier League title win a day after the season ended. However, the parade took a terrifying turn when a vehicle suddenly drove into people on the street.

Multiple emergency teams including an air ambulance rushed to the scene as per several media reports. The police are yet to confirm the number of injuries. The man driving the vehicle was reportedly arrested on the spot. He was caught by the angry mob and was about to be lynched when the police arrived and took him to a secure area.

Police have launched an investigation but are asking the public not to speculate or share disturbing videos online. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer reacted to the incident, calling the scenes “appalling” and thanking the police and medics for their quick response. Liverpool also issued a statement immediately after the incident and said that they were in contact with the local authorities.

“The scenes in Liverpool are appalling — my thoughts are with all those injured or affected. I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident. I’m being kept updated on developments and ask that we give the police the space they need to investigate,” Starmer wrote.

Manchester United and basketball legend LeBron James also reacted to the incident. “OMG!!!! WTH. My deepest thoughts and prayers goes out to everyone affected that attended LFC Premiere League trophy parade today! Such a senseless act!” James wrote on X.
