Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and chiefs of all three services following the India-Pakistan ceasefire announcement on May 10.
Prior to this, the Ministry of Defence and External affairs conducted a separate briefing on Saturday regarding the recent developments post-cease fire announcement. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said an understanding between the two nuclear neighbours has resulted in the ceasefire decision. India’s stance on all terrorism-related activities will remain the same, he added.
“India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action…India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” said the external affairs minister.
Following the truce deal between India and Pakistan, Indian military on May 10 said every misadventure and future escalation by Pakistan will be responded to with strength and decisive action.
“While we will be adhering to the understanding reached today, we remain fully prepared to defend India’s sovereignty,” Commodore Raghu Nair said.
We remain fully operationally ready to launch whatever operations may be required in defence of the nation, he said at a media briefing. Every misadventure by Pakistan will be met with strength and every future escalation will invite a decisive response, he said.
