Neeraj Chopra Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025 Match Result Live Updates: Neeraj Chopra managed to come up with his best throw of the day with his last attempt as he finished second on Friday at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025 in Chorzów, Poland. After a frustrating start to the event, Neeraj came up with 84.14m for his final attempt to ensure his run of top-two finishes continues. Neeraj Chopra and Julian Weber are continuing to lay down the early marker for 2025. The German finished 1st again as he did in Doha last week after a fine series, being the only guy to cross 85m and he did it thrice.
A two-time Olympic medallist and reigning World Champion, Neeraj won the Potch Invitational Meet in Potchefstroom, South Africa, in April with an 84.52m throw to get off a creditable start to his 2025 calendar in a training event. He looked in good shape at Doha Diamond League as he bettered his personal best, created a new national record, became the first Indian, third Asian and overall only the 25th player to go past the coveted 90m mark. Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem (92.97m) of Pakistan and Chao-Tsun Cheng (91.36m) of Chinese Taipei are the two other Asians to have breached the coveted mark.

Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: Here we go then
Final attempts underway. Can Neeraj do to Weber what Weber did to Neeraj last week and sneak a big throw with the last attempt?
It hasn’t looked likely though. Let’s see what the final attempts have in store.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: WEBER ON SONG
This is a seriously good series from Julian Weber. Didn’t look pleased with it initially, but a quick fist pump at the end. It’s a 85.03m throw! The only man to cross 85 today, and he has done it twice.
Here’s how things look after 5 attempts.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: Neeraj improves
81.80m from Neeraj Chopra for the 5th attempt. It is an improvement, but not big enough to push him up the standings. He remains third and will have one attempt to try and move up.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: Fifth attempts
Poland’s Cyprian Mrzygold also joins the 80 club for the day. He goes to 80.49 with his 5th attempt.

Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: FOUL AGAIN
Neeraj Chopra doesn’t look happy with his 4th throw as well and rightly so, was another sub-80. So he fouls this as well, just one valid throw out of four so far. Heads over to coach Jan Zelezny for a quick chat.
83.24 for Peters with his 4th throw, his best of the day so far as he solidifies his 2nd spot. Weber goes past 80 again, some consistency here. 81.63 for the German.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: Fourth throws
Marcin Kurkowski, Polish National Record holder, also throws his best of the night with 79.47
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: Fourth attempts
Artur Felfner of Ukraine (71.52) and Cyprian Mrzyglod (78.12) have both thrown their best of the day so far with the fourth attempts.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: The order will be reset
Based on the first six throws the order will now be reversed. Weber will go last, before Peters and Neeraj.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: Three attempts done
83.72m for Weber with his 3rd attempt and it is the German who is continuing to lead the way. He actually quite disappointed with the third attempt and it still carries close to 85m, seems to be the man to beat tonight.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: No mark for Neeraj
Neeraj Chopra’s third throw is a no measure. No visuals of this throw yet so not clear how far he went. But it doesn’t quite look like Neeraj has come to terms with the conditions yet. Still time left though, three more throws to come.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: Peters improves again
More signs that the athletes are warming up, as Anderson Peters once again improves his mark to go up to 83.24.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: WEBER LEADING THE WAY
Two throws done and as expected, the three big men leading the way. Weber goes past 86 on what has been a slow start to this event, appears to be the early favourite here. Peters and Neeraj in 2nd and 3rd. Four more attempts to go.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: NEERAJ ON BOARD
Neeraj Chopra gets on the board, with 81.28 with his 2nd attempt. And Julian Weber goes big with his 2nd attempt! 86.12 from the German who is on song.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: PETERS GOES BETTER
There we go perhaps they are all warming up now. Anderson Peters goes up to 81.48 and takes over the top spot for now.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: Second throws underway
Roch KRUKOWSKI of Poland with a new Personal Best. 71.87 for him with his 2nd attempt.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: Second throws underway
It seems like the javelin is dipping late, not travelling as we saw last week in Doha. Conditions play a big part in these events.
But Neeraj loves these challenges. One of his strengths is consistently doing well across conditions.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: No mark for Neeraj
NeerajChopra with a sub-80 throw to start and he doesn’t like it, so fouls it. Looks like heavy conditions, no big throws just yet. Peters and Weber have just managed to get past 80m.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: ANDERSON PETERS
The first 80m+ throw is from Anderson Peters. The former World Champion lays down an early marker with 80.72.
Neeraj not far away now.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: Tough conditions?
Mrzyglod has a PB of 84.97, so he is well below that mark. Perhaps it will take longer for the athletes to warm up in these conditions as well. Peters’ throw could be a better indicator, coming up shortly.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: Event has begun
Couple of no-measures from the Polish athletes to get the event underway. Seems pretty chilly conditions, Neeraj well covered in his winter-wear. Maybe not the easiest of throwing conditions, even going by what we saw in the women’s javelin throw a little earlier.
Mrzyglod with a 77.84 to kickstart the valid attempts.

The players have been introduced, Neeraj with a namaste and we are all set to go.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: NEERAJ REACTION
Neeraj said he felt confident of managing a big throw mainly because the groin injury, which was holding him back, had healed. The groin pain affected Neeraj’s throwing technique and did not allow him to explore his full range, the thrower had said. Fit again, Neeraj said he felt better than before. “I feel much better than in the last few years because I always felt something in my groin. And (because of) that, I could not give my best. So now I feel this year I can throw much further. It’s just the beginning.”
Neeraj added Zelezny, with whom he’s been working since February, predicted before the competition that he would cross 90m on Friday. “I’m very happy that Jan was here to support me. Normally, he does not come to Diamond Leagues. But he told me that today is the day. And after 90m, he told me that today you can throw 2-3 more meters. But I’m happy with the 90.”
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: NEERAJ REACTION
Moments after he breached the 90m mark last week, world champion Neeraj Chopra said ‘this is just the beginning’ and his coach Jan Zelezny felt he could have thrown ‘2-3 metres more’ on Friday night. Chopra finished second in the Doha leg of the Diamond League, throwing a distance of 90.23m. He became only the 25th athlete to throw 90m or more and set a national record in the process. However, the twice Olympic and world champion was pipped to the post by Germany’s Julian Weber, who threw 91.06m to finish first. Like Neeraj, it was Weber’s first 90m-plus throw as well.
Speaking after his event, Neeraj said it was a ‘bittersweet’ feeling to throw more than 90m and finish second. “But you know, it (has) happened with me (before) also. When I broke the national record in Turku (in 2022) with over 89 meters and also in Stockholm (when) I threw 89.94 (also 2022). I was always second. And also here, I broke the national record and came second,” Neeraj said.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: The moment after 90m
A wry smile, a shake of the head, and a side embrace with his fellow competitors. There wouldn’t be a more muted, low-key celebration to any sporting accomplishment than this, let alone when an athlete joins an exclusive club that only a couple of dozen were a part of before Friday night.
Indeed, Neeraj Chopra roared and raised his arms in the trademark fashion as he launched the javelin into Doha’s night sky. But that he always does. The difference this time — on this balmy evening with the temperature in the low 30s and very little wind — was that the spear flew and kept flying. By the time it returned to earth, crashing into the other end of the arena, the javelin had travelled the farthest Neeraj — or any other Indian, for that matter — had ever thrown — 90.23m.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: How Neeraj Chopra cleared 90m barrier
Ever the seeker, Neeraj Chopra was already looking expectantly towards the future as everyone around him was revelling in the present. Not for him the outpouring of emotions, a big sigh or any over-the-top celebrations after doing what no other Indian, and only 24 men globally before him, had done: make the javelin travel more than 90m. 90.23, to be exact.
He might have broken the National Record — and the internet — but when, after Friday night’s Diamond League duel, he was enthusiastically asked where this would feature in his long list of achievements, Chopra looked bemused. ‘Achievement?’ he mumbled.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: Nuggets about the 90m club
An upturn incoming?
Since the new records have been maintained since the late 1980s, a decade wise breakdown indicates that we might be entering an golden era. While seven men broke the 90m club in the 1990s, it went down to six in the 2000s and 2010s. But halfway into the 2020s, we already have seven new members in the club. The 1990s also witnessed 40 different events where 90m was broken, thanks mainly to Zelezny — and that number is up to 21 in 2020s. If Chopra, like he always has been, hits a new patch of consistent 90m+ throws in the company of Zelezny, we are in for some highly enthrallingly competitive events.

The Doha factor
Among the 26 athletes who have now breached the 90m barrier, Doha is a popular destination. The Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium in the Qatari capital is where five members of this club – Thomas Röhler, Anderson Peters, Jakub Vadlejch, and now Chopra and Weber – have come up with their best throws. Seven different athletes have thrown 90m+ at the venue with Rohler achieving it twice. Kuortane in Finland has also seen 8 90m+ throws achieved by 5 different athletes.

Jan, in a league of his own
The 90m mark in men’s javelin (800g) has been breached a total of 129 times in history by 26 different athletes, considering of course the one best throw in any given event. One man alone is responsible for 34 of those: Czechia legend Jan Zelezny, the world record holder and, more relevantly, Chopra’s coach. “Growing up, I admired Jan’s technique and precision and spent a lot of time watching (YouTube) videos of him,” Chopra had told World Athletics last year. One of those videos would surely have been the massive 98.48m that is currently the world record, set in May 1996 in Jena, Germany. It has stood the test of time.

16 MAY 2025

30 JUN 2022
The closest Neeraj had come to completing the dream of 90m before Friday night in Doha. In the press interactions over the last couple of years, whenever the question of the 90m mark came up, Neeraj used to go back to this day in Stockholm, referring to how he was just 6 cm of that mark that he longed for. And now, he has bettered his own best to set a new benchmark for Indian athletics.

The golden set was completed in Budapest. After having won all the major medals there is to be won for India, Neeraj added the gold at the World Championships too. And after winning the title, he reiterated how he still had the hunger to keep delivering. “As they say, throwers don’t have a finishing line. No matter how many medals you win, there will always be the motivation that you can throw further.”

The night he rewrote the history books. Neeraj went where no other Indian had gone before, becoming the first ever track & field gold medallist at the Olympic Games. Entering the event as one of the medal favourites, Neeraj set the tone in the qualification round even as some of the other favourites struggled in the Tokyo heat and in the final, he beat the field to clinch gold.

86.48m: World U20 Championships, Bydgoszcz (POL)
23 JUL 2016
In an interview before Paris 2024, Neeraj had said that the only throw that he had been satisfied till date was the 86.48m in the World Under-20 Championships 2016. “That was one throw where I felt it was a special, unique one, but I have not been satisfied with any throw since. I feel I haven’t got to my peak yet,” he recalled. It is the throw that shot him to the limelight, a junior world record that still stands.
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: POLISH INTEREST
Home interest for this event will be Polish national record holder Marcin Krukowski who told the organisers: The first start of the season, last weekend in Warsaw, showed me what I am capable of. It was cold there, but it didn’t stop me from getting a result of 84.39, which speaks for itself. In Chorzów I will try to attack the minimum for the world championships, which means I would like to throw no less than 85.50. The strong competition only motivates me to do so. I will not be hospitable, I will want to show the guys that they have to reckon with me this season
Neeraj Chopra Live Updates, Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025: START LIST
Here’s a ;ook at the field that will be in action tonight. Won’t be an exaggeration to say Neeraj, Weber and Peters will be the top three, in some order. Weber currently holds the World Leading mark, as he pipped Neeraj to the title in Doha Diamond League last week.
