It should be an entertaining sixth day at the French Open as the third round action gets underway in Paris. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the slate, including Frances Tiafoe vs Sebastian Korda. But who will secure their spot in the second week at Roland Garros?
French Open Day 6 Predictions
Carlos Alcaraz vs Damir Dzumhur
Ateet: Carlos Alcaraz was pushed hard by Fabian Marozsan in the second round, and he responded like a champion. Apart from an early blip in the second set, the Spaniard played at a very high level and will hope to keep this level for the rest of the tournament. Damir Dzumhur has earned two solid wins, but it would be a miracle if he upsets Alcaraz here.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 3
Damian: Alcaraz is going to be really difficult to stop this event and some of the recent results in his section only make it clearer that he will make it deep. Perhaps he could have struggled a bit more against the big serve of Mpetshi Perricard, but Dzumhur’s varied game hurting him in best-of-five sounds impossible. There was that knee injury scare for the Bosnian too.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 3
Tope: Alcaraz remains the favourite to win this Grand Slam, and he is not expected to drop many sets or games prior to the second week. Dzumhur has put in considerable effort to climb back into the top 100 with notable achievements on the Challenger Tour. However, facing Alcaraz on his preferred surface makes it nearly impossible to envision anything other than an emphatic win for the Spaniard

Tommy Paul vs Karen Khachanov
Ateet: Tommy Paul survived a fantastic battle against Marton Fucsovics and keeps his tournament alive. Paul showed a lot of fight and will be proud of his effort. However, such a physical match can take its toll, and Karen Khachanov is good enough to take advantage. I am predicting the Russian to get his first victory over Paul.
Prediction: Khachanov in 4
Damian: Two players who have just survived five-setters to get there. Before the tournament Paul seemed like the favorite, but he’s looked quite ordinary thus far and has also indicated he has a lower abdomen issue. Khachanov is a monster physically and might be able to take advantage, he’s also made two quarterfinals at this event before.
Prediction: Khachanov in 5
Tope: While Paul has been quite consistent on clay this season, he still enters this match as a slight underdog, probably because it appears he is nursing an abdominal injury. Asides that, this is the one Grand Slam where Paul has never advanced to the second week, even when fully fit. I think the Russian will take advantage.
Prediction: Khachanov in 5
Daniel Altmaier vs Hamad Medjedovic
Ateet: Both players have done incredibly well to reach the third round and have a great opportunity to make the second week. Hamad Medjedovic has not dropped a set in his two matches, but this will be his biggest test. These two played earlier this year, but it would be a completely different matchup on clay. I am going with the German to get another win as an underdog.
Prediction: Altmaier in 5
Damian: This has been a great section to follow with talented players getting big wins. It comes down to this and while Medjedovic hasn’t lost a set yet, Altmaier has the tools to neutralize his power unlike the previous two opponents. The German won’t allow him to mess around and this is when we’ll know if Medjedovic can apply his game better at this tournament or not.
Prediction: Medjedovic in 5
Tope: While Medjedovic is a strong favorite in this matchup, Altmaier certainly has a real chance. The German player has shown excellent form in Paris so far, gaining a significant boost in confidence from his impressive first-round victory over Taylor Fritz. The longer this one goes, the likelier Altmaier takes control.
Prediction: Altmaier in 5

Lorenzo Musetti vs Mariano Navone
Ateet: Lorenzo Musetti is off to a great start at the 2025 French Open and looks set to reach the second week. Mariano Navone will be a tougher test for Musetti, but he has already beaten him at this place last year at the Paris Olympics and will be aware of the challenge Navone possesses. Both players are excellent on defense, but Musetti’s creativity and superior forehand should be the difference.
Prediction: Musetti in 4
Damian: First test for Musetti, who only had to play out-of-form Galan and Hanfmann thus far. Navone has more quality and has been doing well this season, just not getting the kind of results he was last year due to some tight losses. This will be a wonderful duel in terms of utilizing court geometry, but it’s tough not to back Musetti to have too much in the end.
Prediction: Musetti in 4
Tope: Navone has proven how capable he is on clay, and although he usually showcases his finest performance during the South American swing, he comes into this matchup with great confidence after achieving two impressive victories over Brandon Nakashima and Reilly Opelka. Last year, he beat win Musetti on clay, and he has a solid recent track record of steering clear of straight-set losses at the French Open, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the Italian has to put in considerable effort to secure the win here.
Prediction: Musetti in 5
