Celebrity Masterchef: Gaurav Khanna reveals he used to live in Hussain Kuwajerwala’s house during his initial days in Mumbai; says ‘In my first show he played my father’

On Celebrity MasterChef, Gaurav Khanna received a heartwarming surprise when his friend Hussain Kuwajerwala appeared, as his family couldn’t attend. Gaurav shared their close bond, recalling how Hussein supported him when he first came to Mumbai. Hussein playfully reminded Gaurav of all the meals he had at his home, highlighting their enduring friendship.

In the heartwarming pre-finale episode of Celebrity MasterChef, families of the top five finalists—Tejasswi Prakash, Gaurav Khanna, Nikki Tamboli, Faisu, and Rajiv Adatia—joined the contestants for a special surprise. While most were greeted by loved ones, Gaurav Khanna stood alone, as his wife Akanksha was caught up with her shoot and his parents were in Kanpur.

However, the judges had a touching surprise planned. They invited Gaurav’s longtime friend and actor Hussain Kuwajerwala to the MasterChef kitchen. Gaurav, overwhelmed with emotion, shared their deep bond: “Yeh meri family hai. When I came to Mumbai toh Hussein ke ghar pe hi rehta tha, khaata tha. My initial was with him.”

Hussain playfully added, “Tune mera bahut namak khaya hai. Tune mere ghar ka bahut namak khaya hai. Now it’s your turn to come to my home and cook for us.”

Farah Khan also reminisced, saying, “I had done Indian Idol with him 20 years back and even now he looks the same.” Gaurav further revealed, “When I came to Mumbai and my first work on television, where we met, Hussain was playing my father.”

Providing a cheerful update, Hussain said, “Let me tell you, a new restaurant is opening in Kanpur called ‘Khana by Khanna’ so his parents are busy there and Akanksha is busy doing interiors.”

Reflecting on their early days, Gaurav explained, “In a show, there was a leap. Our renowned star Hussain’s future kids’ story was being scripted. Someone thought I look like his kid. I was playing his younger son; he had an older son played by Vivan Bhatena. But today, we are all here because of television. Thank you, television. But Hussain is actually my family. Whatever I have learnt in acting, I have learnt from him. He even attended Akanksha and my wedding in Kanpur.”

Hussein fondly noted Gaurav’s spirit: “He has always been very competitive.” Wrapping up the moment, Chef Ranveer Brar smiled and said, “Father nahi but father figure agaye.”
