Star of Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, 35, Officially Exits Production and Is Being Replaced With This HBO Star

One crew member from The Odyssey will not be partaking in the voyage, after all. Cosmo Jarvis, the star of last year’s hit FX miniseries Shōgun, has departed the upcoming epic. His role in the film, which has not yet been specified, will be assumed by Logan Marshall-Green. The Odyssey, which is director Christopher Nolan’s much-anticipated follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster biopic Oppenheimer, will be released in theaters on July 17, 2026.

Deadline reports that Jarvis’ departure is due to a scheduling conflict; the British actor is slated to play the title role in Young Stalin, an account of the early days of the future Soviet ruler, and is also starring in Guy Ritchie’s Wife & Dog, and the second season of Shōgun. Marshall-Green is a newcomer to Nolan productions, but has starred in a number of notable films, including Prometheus, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Upgrade. He recently starred in the Netflix actioner Carry-On, and can currently be seen in the third season of HBO’s Sex and the City sequel series, And Just Like That…, as landscaper Adam.

What Do We Know About ‘The Odyssey’?

So far, plot and character details of The Odyssey, an adaptation of the ancient Greek epic poem of the same name, have remained as murky as Homer’s wine-dark sea. However, assuming it follows the general structure of its source material, the film will depict the arduous ten-year homeward voyage of Odysseus (Matt Damon) as he attempts to return from the sacked city of Troy to Ithaca, where his wife, Penelope, and son, Telemachus (Tom Holland) await him. However, in securing victory for the Greeks over the Trojans, he has incurred the wrath of the gods, and will have to contend with monsters, demigods, and sorceresses as he makes his way home. Meanwhile, Penelope is besieged by uncouth suitors who want to claim her husband’s absent throne. The film will also star Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Benny Safdie, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, Elliot Page, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, and Corey Hawkins.

Moviegoers recently got a first look at The Odyssey in a new teaser attached to last weekend’s monster hit Jurassic World: Rebirth. It features the first glimpse of Holland’s Telemachus, as he converses with Bernthal’s character regarding the fate of Odysseus, who we see adrift aboard the wreckage of his ship.
