Sunjay Kapur and Karisma Kapoor’s marriage ended with a bitter divorce battle.
Industrialist Sunjay Kapur passed away earlier this month after he suffered a fatal heart attack during a polo match at Guards Polo Club in Windsor, England. Amid this, an old interview of his third wife, Priya Sachdev, has resurfaced and gone viral. In the interview, Priya spoke about how she met Sunjay and how they became a “blended” family due to his kids from his previous marriages and how he and Karisma Kapoor didn’t have a traditional marriage set up.
As quoted in SCREEN, Priya reflected on Sunjay’s marriage to Karisma Kapoor and said, “Sunjay’s previous marriage was not a conventional marriage. He had two beautiful children from that marriage. We love them dearly, and today we are one beautiful blended family.” Although Priya didn’t name Karisma, Sunjay used to be married to the Bollywood actress before he married her.
Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapoor had tied the knot in 2002. While Karisma and Sunjay were parents to two children, their divorce, finalised in 2016, became a talking point in the media due to the serious allegations involved. Karisma accused Sunjay of domestic abuse, while Sunjay alleged that she had married him only for money.
Veteran actor Randhir Kapoor, Karisma’s father, had always been vocal about his disapproval of the marriage. In a 2016 interview with Hindustan Times, Randhir lashed out at Sunjay and said, “Sunjay is a third-class man… Everyone knows our credentials. We are Kapoors. We don’t need to run after anyone’s money. We have been blessed with not only money, but our talent can support us for the rest of our lives… I never wanted Karisma marrying him… The entire Delhi knows how he is. I would not like to say anything more than this.”
Karisma never remarried and has not been romantically linked to anyone. In 2022, Karisma Kapoor held an AMA session with her fans on Instagram. When asked if she would ever get married again, the actress shared a GIF of a confused Quinta Brunson and wrote, “Depends.” Karisma Kapoor rarely spoke about her personal life, and her comment quickly grabbed everyone’s attention back then.
