Punjab Kings suffered a setback in the quest for securing its position in Qualifier 1 after a six-wicket loss at the hands of Delhi Capitals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday.
Karun Nair’s anchoring innings of 44 and Sameer Rizvi’s 25-ball 58 helped the side chase down the 207-run target with three balls to spare.

DC needs 8 runs to win off 6 balls. Here comes Stoinis. He starts off with a wide down leg-side. Seven runs needed to six balls and 200 is up for DC in exactly 19 overs.
Driven to deep point by Rizvi for a single. Just six runs needed now. Clipped off the toes by Stubbs for one more. 5 to win from 4 balls. SIX! Rizvi finishes it off in style. Goes across slightly and sweeps this over fine-leg for a maximum. Delhi Capitals wins by six wickets and signs off from IPL 2025 in style.
Arshdeep bowls his final over. SIX! Shuffles across, gets into a good position and Rizvi pulls this knuckle ball over fine-leg for a maximum. Guided to point for a quick single and Rizvi brings up his maiden IPL fifty, off just 22 balls.
Good yorker and dug out by Stubbs for a single at long-on. Drilled to long-off by Rizvi for another one. FOUR! Brilliant reverse swatted this to the boundary behind to end the over.
Here comes Omarzai again for his last over. Pulled by Rizvi for a single to begin the over. Driven to long-on for one more by Stubbs. FOUR! Good yorker, but Rizvi manages to clip it away to the fine-leg boundary. Short and chopped to point by Rivzi for another single. Slower one, and chipped to a vacant mid-on by Stubbs for one more. FOUR! Not too short, but Rizvi still manages to pull this to the midwicket boundary. He reaches 43 – his highest score in the IPL.
Brar bowls his final over. A quick couple off the first ball of the over as Stubbs clips it to deep square-leg. Thumped down the ground next ball by Stubbs for a single. SIX! Rizvi clears his front leg and clubs this over midwicket for a massive maximum. FOUR! Boundary to end the over as Stubbs drives this full one outside off through covers.
Arshdeep comes back for his third over. Tristan Stubbs is in next. Rizvi pushes the ball to long-off for a single to start the over. Back-of-a-length on off, and Stubbs punches it to the cover fielder for a dot ball. Tucked off the pads to fine-leg by Stubbs for a single. Flicked to deep midwicket by Rizvi for one more. Punched straight to cover again by Stubbs. Pulled by Stubbs for a single and just four runs from it. Top stuff from Arshdeep.
Brar comes back. Short and pulled to deep square by Karun for a single. Nudged on leg-side and one more for Rizvi. FOUR! Cut off the back foot by Karun through point and it beats the diving effort at the boundary. This is going down leg-side and called a wide. Pulled to deep midwicket by Karun for one more. Driven aerially to wide long-off by Rizvi for another single. OUT! The stumps are a mess and Karun has to go. Pitching on middle and leg, and Karun goes too far across to sweep this and misses.
Karun Nair b Harpreet Brar 44 (27b 5×4 2×6)
Jansen will bowl out. Around the wicket to Karun. Flicked to deep midwicket for a single. Slower one, and Rizvi gloves it to short fine for one more. SIX! Slow and in the slot, and Karun drives this gracefully over long-off for a maximum. Karun fails to tuck this away on leg-side and collects a leg-bye. But the buzzer goes off because Jansen has overstepped. Rizvi to face the free-hit. SIX! Rizvi backs away outside leg-stump and pulls this shortish delivery over square-leg for big maximum. Time for a timeout and Punjab Kings needs to regroup now.

Omarzai comes back. Short and pulled away by Rizvi for a single at fine-leg, where Jansen collects the ball after one bounce. Driven with the inside half of the bat to long-on by Karun for a single. FOUR! Bizarre shot and a boundary. Short, and Rizvi went for something like a tennis forehand over the bowler and the ball flew off the top edge and raced the boundary behind the keeper. SIX! Rizvi shuffles across, ducks and then flicks the ball over backward square-leg for a maximum. Cheekily done but effective. Outside edge again, this time for Karun, and a single at deep third to end the over.
Jansen comes back and starts off with a wide down leg-side. Guided by Rizvi for a single a deep third. Karun gets a thick outside edge to point as he looks to flay the ball over covers after stepping out. Short and wide next ball, Karun misses the slash and the keeper appeals for a caught behind. Shreyas has gone upstairs for the review. Broad daylight between bat and ball and Punjab Kings has thrown this review away totally. Three dots in a row now as Karun shuffles across but fails to scoop the ball behind. A couple of singles to end the over.
Dubey continues. OUT! Atal holes out at midwicket and the leggie strikes.
Sameer Rizvi is in next. FOUR! Swept by Karun to the square-leg boundary. FOUR! Swept finer this time and Karun finds the fine-leg boundary this time. That’s hundred up for DC in 10.4 overs. FOUR! Three fours in a row now as Karun pulls this shortish delivery to the midwicket fence. FOUR! Four boundaries in a row! Drifting down leg-side and paddled to the boundary behind by Karun.
Sediqullah Atal c Arshdeep Singh b Pravin Dubey 22 (16b 2×6)
Marcus Stoinis gets a crack with the ball. Straighter one. Pushed to long on by Karun Nair for a single. Atal adds a double with a cover drive.
DROPPED!! Stoinis forces miscue from Atal. It is a skier. Inglis circles under it. But he misjudges it and fumbles the catch. Atal celebrates the reprieve by slamming a shorter one from Stoinis for a six.
Pravin Dubey is the new bowler for PBKS. Short from the leg spinner. Pulled away for a single by Karun Nair. Sharp over from Dubey. Just four runs from his first over. Strategic timeout taken.
Jansen returns. Starts with a dot ball against new batter Sediqullah Atal. Couple of singles follow. Atal gets his first six in IPL, with a pull shot behind square. Not the greatest timing. But Jansen’s pace helps.
Brar continues. Faf gets a double with a gentle dab to mid wicket. Brar hangs it wide and Faf slashes at it. Lobbed to point for an easy catch.
Faf du Plessis c Arya b Harpreet Brar 23 (15b 2×4 1×6)
DC 66/2 in 7 overs
Jansen gets an over in the PowerPlay. He goes short and Rahul is ready with the pull shot. Puts it just past deep square leg for a four. Rahul now looks to chip one straight back. Can’t beat Shashank Singh at mid off.
KL Rahul c Shashank Singh b Jansen 35 (21b 6×4 1×6)
Karun Nair is the new batter and he gets off the mark with a flicked six behind the square.
DC 61/1 in 6 overs
Spin introduced for PBKS. Harpreet Brar with his left-arm spin. Faf takes him on by whacking him down the ground for a four. Had to reach for that. Faf now looks to go through covers. Almost finds Stoinis there. Rahul closes out the over by dancing down and launching a six down the ground.
First six of the innings. Omarzai errs with his line. Into Faf’s pads and lofted over square leg for a maximum. Rahul is offered some room and he thumps Omarzai through covers for a four. Leg-sideish now. Clicked away for another four.
Arshdeep continues. Rahul gets off the strike with a nudge off his pads. The left-arm pacer holds his length. Faf adds another single. A tad too full from Arshdeep now. Flicked away for a four by Rahul. Width now. Slapped over covers for a four by Rahul.
Omarzai from the other end for PBKS. Starts with a couple of dot balls against Rahul. Offers width and Rahul punches it through covers for a four. Adds a single with a push to mid on.
Arshdeep Singh with the first over for Punjab Kings, expectedly. Swings one away from KL Rahul. Beaten. Gets off the mark with a single to mid off. Du Plessis gets his first runs with a single too. Short from Arshdeep now. Pulled away for a single by Rahul. Goes short to Faf too. His pull is crisply timed. FOUR!!
Mustafizur to bowl the final over. Short, and Stoinis miscues the pull and can only get a single at long-off. Beaten! Short again, pace off and Marco Jansen misses the pull. OUT! Jansen gets a faint edge to the keeper trying to pull another short one.
Harpreet Brar comes in. SIX! Fullish angling on the pads and swatted over deep midwicket for a maximum. Pulled to deep midwicket next ball for just one. Stoinis to face the final ball of the innings. A couple to end the innings as there is a miscommunication and the ball falls between the converging bowler and the midwicket fielder after Stoinis skies it high in the air.
image.jpg
Marco Jansen c Tristan Stubbs b Mustafizur Rahman 0 (2b)
Mohit bowls his last. SIX! Shortish and pulled away ferociously by Stoinis for maximum over deep midwicket. FOUR! Full toss on the stumps and Stoinis flicks it away clumsily to the midwicket boundary, where Vipraj Nigam misfields. Stoinis moves across the stumps, and Mukesh pitches it too wide outside off and called a wide. Mohit has also overstepped, so it will be a no-ball instead. FOUR! Slower delivery, and Stoinis shuffles across again and finds the midwicket boundary off the free-hit. SIX! Nowhere to hide for Mohit. Too full, in the slot outside off and pumped over long-off by Stoinis for a maximum. Mohit finally gets the yorker right and jammed into the off-side by Stoinis for a single off the last ball of the over.
Kuldeep with the ball. KL Rahul comes on as Impact Player and Mukesh Kumar goes out.
DROPPED! Mohit spills an easy catch at fine-leg and hands Stoinis a lifeline on 18. OUT! And Mohit takes the catch next ball at exactly the same position, and Shreyas walks back.
Azmatullah Omarzai is the new man in. OUT! Omarzai rocks back to pull this short ball and hits it straight to the man at deep midwicket.
Shreyas Iyer c Mohit Sharma b Kuldeep Yadav 53 (34b 5×4 2×6)
Azmatullah Omarzai c Sameer Rizvi b Kuldeep Yadav 1 (3b)
Mukesh bowls out. DROPPED! Another reprieve for Shreyas, as Ashutosh Sharma back-pedals from cover but can’t get in a position to take the catch. Bouncer, Stoinis misses the ramp but called wide by the third umpire after the batter reviews. SIX! Not too short, but still pulled away over deep midwicket by Stoinis for a big maximum. Another bouncer, and called wide this time by the on-field umpire. SIX! Slightly fuller, but still on the pads and heaved away behind square by Stoinis for another six. Third wide in this over as Mukesh pitches the ball full and wide outside the tramline on off-side. FOUR! Too full outside off, bludgeoned by Stoinis and the ball just falls in front of Du Plessis and over the boundary rope. Du Plessis has also hurt his finger while diving to get to the ball and is off the field. Heaved away to deep midwicket by Stoinis for one more. FOUR! Full and on the pads and whipped behind the keeper by Shreyas for a boundary. Shreyas brings up his fifty, off 33 balls, with that boundary. 25 runs from the over.
Mustafizur comes back. OUT! The left-armer has consistently angling the ball away from the righties, and off the fourth ball, Shashank gets an outside edge to the keeper. Marcus Stoinis is in next. Excellent over by Mustafizur, with just four runs coming from it.
Mohit comes back. Driven through covers by Shashank for a couple off the first ball. Short ball going down leg and Shreyas misses the pull. Or has he, because Mukesh is appealing for caught behind and the umpire has lifted his finger to send Shreyas back. However, the PBKS skipper immediately decides to refer the decision. Nothing on UltraEdge, and the third umpire is now only checking whether it was a wide or not. The third umpire also calls it a wide.
DROPPED! Top edge on the pull for Shreyas, and the ball falls just away from a diving Kuldeep at backward square. SIX! Mohit goes short after attempting two yorkers, and Shashank pulls it, looking to clear the wide long-on boundary. However, Karun does well to hold on to it at the boundary and throw it back into the field. He funnily signals it six, but replays show he did the job cleanly enough, and it’s just a single off the last ball of the over. Strategic Timeout!
Vipraj bowls out. FOUR! Room outside off and shovelled over extra-cover by Shreyas for a boundary off the first ball. Flicked off the toes for a single next ball. Tossed up way outside off, and Shashank chops it behind short-third for a couple of runs. Vipraj ends with 2/38 from his four overs.
Mukesh returns to bowl his third over. Comes around the wicket to Wadhera, who shuuffles across his stumps to scoop this over the keeper but misses. Shortish and Wadhera mistimes the pull shot, but collects a couple at deep midwicket. OUT! Wadhera falls. He has hit this high in the air, outdone by the lack of pace and Du Plessis settles under the ball at mid-on.
Shashank Singh comes in next. He is off the mark right away with a single. FOUR! Elegantly placed behind point by Shreyas with an open bat-face and he finds the boundary.
Nehal Wadhera c Faf du Plessis b Mukesh Kumar 16 (16b 1×4)
Kuldeep into his third over. SIX! Tossed up outside off and Shreyas launches the ball over long-on for a huge maximum. Kuldeep goes short on a couple of occasions, but Shreyas can’t make full use of the loose deliveries. Just a couple of two singles after that six in this over.
Mohit comes back. Driven to long-off by Shreyas for a single. Beaten! Mohit angles the ball into Wadhera from around the wicket and beats him as Wadhera looks to guide this behind point after stepping out. Short and slow next ball, and Wadhera slashes it sloppily to short-third for a single. FOUR! Full and driven over cover by Shreyas to the boundary. Hundred up for Punjab Kings in 10.4 overs. Four singles and a boundary from the over.
Vipraj Nigam gets his third over. Shreyas and Wadhera trade singles to start the over. Quicker one from the leggie. Slides under Wadhera’s attempted sweep. Hits him on the pad. Not much of an appeal from DC.
Kuldeep floats one away from the stumps. Shreyas goes for a slog sweep. Nails it as the ball flies over deep mid wicket for a six. Wadhera is the new batter for PBKS. He gets off the mark with a sweep. Placed behind deep fine leg for a four. Wadhera adds a double with another sweep.
Vipraj Nigam continues. Couple of singles to start the over with. Full and wide from the leggie. Prabhsimran swats it for a four over extra cover.
Nigam responds with a quicker one. Prabhsimran attempts a scoop. Misses it completely. BOWLED!!
Prabhsimran Singh b Nigam 28 (18b 4×4 1×6)
PBKS 77/3 in 8 overs
Kuldeep Yadav starts with a front-foot no ball. Prabhsimran to face the free hit. Thumps a fuller one down the ground for a six. Pushes the next one to the leg side for a single. Shreyas adds another one with a cut shot.
Vipraj Nigam drops it short for his first ball. Inglis pulls it with power to land it over the deep mid wicket fence. SIX!! Better length from Nigam. Inglis slashes at it. Edged and runs away for a four.
Nigam with a googly, which evades a charging Inglis. Stubbs completes a clean stumping down the legside.
Josh Inglis st †Stubbs b Nigam 32 (12b 3×4 2×6)
Shreyas Iyer gets off the mark with an expansive cover drive for four.
PBKS 60/2 in 6 overs
Mohit Sharma with his first over of the day. Starts well. Two dot balls off his first three balls. Prabhsimran premeditates a ramp. But Mohit keeps it wide outside off. The PBKS opener reacts by guiding it behind point for a four. CLEVER! Prabhsimran now decides to go over mid off. FOUR MORE!!
Prabhsimran goes down the ground now. Pushes one past mid off, against Mustafizur, for a four. Fizz drifts onto Inglis’ pads from over the wicket. Flicked away with ease by the Aussie. First six of the game. PBKS innings gaining momentum. Prabhsimran tries another straight drive. Right at Mustafizur. Tough chance, but dropped.
Karun Nair puts in a diving stop at wide slip to prevent Prabhsimran from gaining a four. Prabhsimran looks to go over the top on the leg side. Not it control, but just over mid wicket. Mukesh sticks to back of a length. Inglis deals with it by swatting it away for a four to deep square fence. Inglis continues to take on Mukesh. Punches one down the ground for a four, just past mid on.
Mustafizur Rahman from the other end for Delhi Capitals. Prabhsimran gets off the mark with a single to the leg side. Priyansh adds a double with a nudge past point.
Mustafizur goes back of length and Priyansh goes cross-bat at it. Top edged and Stubbs takes a good catch, running back.
Priyansh Arya c †Stubbs b Mustafizur Rahman 6 (9b 1×4 0x6)
PBKS 10/1 in 2 overs
Mukesh Kumar with the first over for Delhi Capitals. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya open the batting for Punjab Kings. Mukesh sticks to his length. Dot ball once more.
First ball. Priyansh defends a length ball off his front foot. Length again. Priyansh on the defence once more. Away swinger now. Too wide says the umpire. Mukesh angles one in now. Thuds Priyansh on the front pad. Mukesh hangs it outside off. Edged by Priyansh. Runs away for a four.
Definitely happy faces. I am not satisfied and content. We want to build momentum from here. Each and every individual is performing for the team. Job half done as of now. Important to stay in the present and seize every possible chance. Inglis and Stoinis come back into the side.
We will have a bowl. I think today it is 50-50. Just the make up of the side. We are playing an extra batter. It helps while chasing. It has been very frustrating. We started well. Then went on a roller coaster. We have played enough T20 cricket to understand. We played well in the last game for the first 17 overs. Then lost focus. We are playing for the fifth spot. We had our goals to get into top four.

Sixteen days after their game in Dharamsala was abandoned before the completion of the first innings, Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) will meet again at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, here on Saturday.
A lot has changed since that fateful night in the mountain town. The Kings have already sealed their spot in the Playoffs for the first time in 11 years after a win against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) here.
The Shreyas Iyer-led team has been heavily reliant on its top order this season, with uncapped opener Prabhsimran Singh leading the run-scoring charts with 458 runs. The performance of the middle order against RR, led by Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh, augurs well as the side pushes for a top-two finish.
