Finally! Tilak finishes off the game with a reverse swept four against Zeeshan Ansari. A four-wicket win for the home team built on a team performance.
High full toss from Eshan and it comes off Tilak’s bat for a single. MI reviews for a no ball. It just makes the cut. Full from Eshan and Hardik flicks it right to Ishan Kishan at deep mid wicket. Anti-climatic.
Hardik Pandya c Ishan Kishan b Malinga 21 (9b 3×4 1×6)
Naman Dhir is the new batter and he plays out two dot balls before he is trapped in front by Malinga. Dhir takes a review and then walks off even before the DRS verdict is made.
Naman Dhir lbw b Malinga 0 (3b 0x4 0x6)
MI 162/6 in 18 overs
Harshal strays down the leg side. Tilak pulls it away. Good work by Nitish to cut off a boundary. Harshal now fires one into Hardik’s arc. Slogged over long on for a six, just past Pat Cummins. Full again. Hardik goes after it. Sliced over short third for a four. Hardik pumps one to long off for a single. Three more needed now. Tilak makes it two with a single off the last ball.
MI can sense the finishing line here. Just 28 needed from the last five over. Tilak starts the 16th with a single to the leg side. Hardik adds another with a touch to the off side. Full and wide from Malinga now and Tilak chips it over mid off for a four. Nine runs from the over.
Cummins with his final over. He will be hoping to get another wicket to create some sort of foothold for his team. Short from the pacer. No pace on it. Tilak nearly pulls it to Harshal at deep fine leg. Lands short.
But, Cummins does deliver for SRH. Slower ball off length. Jacks flat-bats it right to Zeeshan at mid-off. Is that SRH’s turn to turn this game on its head?
Will Jacks c Zeeshan Ansari b Cummins 36 (26b 3×4 2×6)
MI skipper Hardik Pandya walks in and gets going with two fours. One past point and another a pull towards deep mid wicket.
MI 137/4 in 15 overs
Harshal Patel returns. Jacks guides one to deep third fence. It looked destined for a four before Malinga put in a diving stop. Just a single. Into Tilak’s pads now. Dabbed away for a single. Decent over from Harshal. Just five runs from it.
Cummins goes wide and SKY stretches across to touch it over short third for a four. Cummins now angles a cutter into the MI batter, who skews it for an easy catch at mid off.
Suryakumar Yadav c Zeeshan Ansari b Cummins 26 (15b 2×4 2×6)
Tilak Varma is the new batter and he gets off the mark with a single down the leg side.
MI 122/3 in 13 overs
Short and wide from Eshan Malinga. SKY leaps off his crease to carve it over point for a slick four. The boundaries keep flowing for Mumbai Indians. The required rate is now close to six. Malinga makes it worse by giving away a wide down the off side. Low full toss for the last ball. Flicked away for an easy four by Jacks.
Will Jacks goes for the big one straight off against Zeeshan. It is high and just long enough. SIX!! Dew seems to be becoming a more prominent presence as Zeeshan is forced to wipe the ball mid over. Wide from Zeeshan and SKY slices it away for a couple of runs. SKY too takes the Jacks route. High and just enough to clear the long on fence. SIX MORE!! MI well in control of this chase.
Rahul Chahar to bowl now. Jacks gets a googly first up, defends this to covers.
SIX! Chahar shows the rustiness. Drags this way short, Jacks is quick to fall into his crease and smoke this over midwicket. Jacks tries to cut the third, has the width but hits it into the ground, no run as extra covers fields this.
Full and outside off on the fourth, Jacks drills this to deep covers, one run. A googly to Sky, stands up, goes into his crease and punches to deep cover for a single. Jacks gets another single on the final delivery. Nine runs from this over.
Zeeshan again. FOUR! Jacks has no clue about that googly, he presents his bat face for a drive down to long off, the ball turns into him and takes an inside edge, runs all the way to the fence.
Suryakumar tries to sweep a leg-spin delivery from outside the off stump, misses. SIX now! Zeeshan drifts this too far down leg, Sky gets down on one knee and picks this up over fine leg.
Why was Rickelton’s dismissal overturned during Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad?
Mumbai Indians opener Ryan Rickelton was at the receiving end of a major reprieve during an IPL 2025 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Rahul Chahar comes in as Impact Player in place of Mohammed Shami.
Harshal Patel for his first over.
FOUR! Harshal comes over the wicket to Rickelton, angles into the midrif with a slower ball, Rickelton pulls this over short fine leg. FOUR again! A bouncer from Harshal, pummels this away over square leg.
WICKET! Harshal has the last laugh. A slower delivery outside off, Rickelton chases this and ends up getting a leading edge. Head gets under it at backward point and completes the wicket.
Ryan Rickelton c Head b Harshal 31 (23)
Suryakumar Yadav is the new batter. He clips his first delivery through midwicket to pick a single.
Zeeshan Ansari being introduced now. Jacks picks a single to deep midwicket on the first delivery. Zeeshan bowls outside off to Rickelton, who tries to sweep this and misses.
The fourth is outside off again but this one is a googly, turns away and beats Rickelton’s sweep. Klaasen with some quick glovework but Rickelton is safely inside.
The fifth delivery is flatter and angling away outside off, Rickelton goes on his back foot to cut, picks the cover fielder. But the wicket does not stand. Klaasen has his hands in front of the stumps, even if he does not collect the ball. A huge, huge repreive for Rickelton. It’s been given a no ball and a FREE HIT coming up.
Zeesha fires this wide in trying to defend, he’ll have to bowl that again. Rickelton flat-bats the next to long on, just one run.
Eshan Malinga into the attack now. Jacks gets the first delivery coming into his pads, clips it to deep square leg.
FOUR! A slower ball on the off-stump line, Rickelton chips this over mid off. FOUR more! A bouncer from Eshan but does not have any venom behind it, Rickelton gets on top of this and pulls through square leg. The third FOUR of this over. A full toss outside off, Rickelton does not try to bludgeon this, uses the pace to drive it past mid off.
Eshan takes the pace off on the fifth delivery, Rickelton rolls his wrists over this flick and gets a run to deep square leg. A change of ball for some reason.
Jacks gets an outside edge on the final delivery, short third man misfields which allows a single.
Shami to Rickelton, at a length outside off, Rickelton punches to covers, no run. Rickelton charges down to Shami on the second, ends up slicing over the infield on the off side, two runs.
The third is slower through the air, Rickelton swipes hard and gets a single to fine leg.
FOUR! Jacks pick his first boundary. Reads the change of pace and picks this past mid off.
PUT DOWN! Jacks again tries to take on Shami, wants to clear covers, but it goes in a flatter trajectory out of his bat. It is headed straight to Travis Head at covers where he spills the chance. One run taken.
Cummins for his second. SIX for Rohit. Cummins misses the length and the line. This comes in the slot on the middle-stump line, Rohit picks it up through the on side. A single to mid off next, comes down looking to attack, drives but fails to pick the gap.
Rickelton tries to play across the line from outside off, fails to time it, just one run as he drags this to fine leg.
BEATEN! The fourth delivery stays a touch low, Rohit has moved across his stumps, wants to pull again but the delivery creeps under his swing.
WICKET! A soft dismissal! A low full toss and Rohit has driven this straight to covers.
Rohit Sharma c Head b Cummins 26 (16)
Will Jacks at No. 3.
Shami to Rohit, the bat turns in Rohit’s hands as he tries to hack this away across the line, two runs through midwicket. BEATEN! Nowhere close to the line, Rohit tries to drive it but the ball shapes away and beats the edge.
SIX! It takes an outside edge to get MI its first boundary, Rohit again looking to heave through the on side, the ball stops a touch after pitching, lands on the boundary rope on the full. Two runs through covers on the fourth, makes room but Shami follows him, Rohit hits with a horizontal bat through covers.
SIX! MASSIVE! A juicy half volley, Rohit stands still and pummels this over square leg. This lands way back in the stands. A single on the final delivery makes it 17 runs from the over.
Pat Cummins from the other end. On the back-of-a-length right away, aimed at the off stump, Rohit gets on his toes to block this. The second is a dot, moving in with the angle towards the off stump, Rohit wants to punch through the off side, gets an inside edge to midwicket.
One run to third man on the third delivery, Rohit uses the bounce and pace to punch this away.
A swing and a miss for Rickelton, this moves away from him, tries to drive through covers but misses. An inside edge on the fifth ball, Rickelton wants to play this through midwicket, does not quite get in the line with the shot, gets an inside edge to fine leg for a single.
Another great save by Reddy on the last ball, this time at cover-point. Rohit again pushes this through the point region, Reddy cuts this off but cannot prevent the single.
Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton to open the innings. Mohammed Shami with the first over.
Shami to Rickelton, wide outside off, Rickelton drives but Nitish Reddy stops this wide a dive to his right. The second is again outside off, Rickelton leans into this drive, pushes this to deep point for one.
Rohit on strike now. BEATEN! Comes down to Shami, wants to heave this through covers, cannot hit it. The fourth delivery goes with the angle and thuds into the pads, a leg bye for Rohit. The fifth ball nips into the left-hander, Rickelton clips off his pads and gets two runs to deep fine leg. An edge on the last delivery, again outside off and Rickelton’s drive induces an edge due to the movement away, fielded by third man.
On a day when batting records were to be broken, MI caught SRH by surprise with this two-paced wicket. How the innings was going to pan out became clear when Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head struggled to get going. The latter ended with a strike rate less than 100. Heinrich Klaasen’s late acceleration and Aniket Verma’s cameo got SRH to 162 runs. Would that be enough? We will find out soon enough.
Hardik with the final over. Starts with a yorker. Aniket squeezes it away for a double. Oh wait. It is a short run by Aniket. Hardik offers a length ball and Aniket slams it over extra cover for a six. Fuller now and Aniket connects the slog. SIX MORE!! Mishit from Aniket. SRH manages to sneak in a double, thanks to a poor throw from Jacks from the deep. A poor collection from Rickelton allows SRH to get in a bye. Full toss to finish with. Cummins carves it away for a six.
SRH ends with 162/5 in its 20 overs
Klaasen tries to make room by shuffling away from the stumps. But, he misses a low full toss from Bumrah and it crashes onto the stumps.
Heinrich Klaasen b Bumrah 37 (28b 3×4 2×6)
Cummins is the new batter for SRH and he gets off the mark with a single. Just four runs from the over.
SRH 140/5 in 19 overs
Klaasen finally gets one. Width from Chahar and Klaasen slashes it over covers for a six. Straighter now. Klaasen goes over mid wicket. FOUR MORE!! Klaasen reads the shorter one early. On the back foot and pumps it for a four. Chahar dishes out a full toss. Easy flick behind square. SIX!!
Boult from around the wicket. Klaasen tries a scoop. Misses and thuds onto his pads. Boult is interested in an LBW. The umpire isn’t. Neither is Hardik. Seems like pitching outside leg stump. Low full toss now. Klaasen can’t get his timing right. Just a single.
Full from Boult. Nitish tries a helicopter shot. Not off the middle of the bat. Easy catch for Tilak at long-on.
Nitish Kumar Reddy c Tilak Varma b Boult 19 (21b 1×4 0x6)
SRH 115/4 in 17 overs
Bumrah starts with a slower ball. Nitish misses out on an attempted reverse scoop. Single only. Klaasen slams one to deep mid wicket. Suryakumar puts in a good diving stop to prevent a boundary. Low full toss now. Nitish can’t put that away too. Single again. Bumrah misses his line and gives away a leg-side wide.
Boult with his third. Wide outside off. Klaasen manages an outside edge and it runs away for a four. Boult responds with a couple of spot-on yorkers. Dug out by Klaasen and Nitish for singles.
Hardik brings himself back. Klaasen dabs one to long off to get a strike. Slow short ball from Hardik. Nitish gets no timing on it. Under edges it for a single. Hardik continues to dabble with slower balls. Nitish and Klaasen struggle to latch onto them. Just four singles from the over.
Finally, we have Mitchell Santner. Nitish though is ready for it. Brings out the reverse sweep first ball and manages a four. Couple of singles follow as Santner gets into the rhythm. It is advantage MI as we close in on the death overs. Hardik continues to dabble with the slower balls. Klaasen and Nitish struggling to latch on to them.
No sight of Santner yet as Hardik sticks with Will Jacks’ off spin. And it proves to be a master-stroke as Head skews one high for Santner to take a good catch at long off.
Travis Head c Santner b Jacks 28 (29b 3×4 0x6)
Klaasen is the new batter for SRH and he starts with a string of dot balls. Five of them in fact.
SRH 83/3 in 12 overs
Boult is back. Nitish chips one over him for a single. Full now. Head punches it for a single to long off. Boult keeps it full and straight. Nitish tucks it away for another single. Quite an uncharacteristic knock from Head so far. Just three fours so far from his blade. Six singles from the over.
MI vs SRH, IPL 2025: Travis Head becomes second-fastest to 1000 IPL runs
Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Travis Head became the second-fastest to 1000 runs in the Indian Premier League during an IPL 2025 match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede on Thursday.
Hardik to continue. A low full toss to Head, drives it to long on, one run. A slower bouncer for Nitish, tries a ramp but misses.
Another bouncer to Nitish, this time he executes the ramp, goes to third man on one bounce, gets a run.
HEAD IS CAUGHT OFF A NO BALL! He scythes this length ball straight to deep midwicket but the siren blares and Head jaunts back to his crease. He is caught at long on on the FREE HIT, a slower bouncer wide of off, swipes this down the ground and settles for one.
Another pace-off bouncer, Nitish can only watch this sail to the keeper. Nitish pulls the final delivery to deep midwicket, one run.
Jacks for his second. Head charges on the first delivey, gets an inside edge to fine leg for one. Ishan punches the second to long on off his backfoot, one run.
Jacks goes fuller on the third, Head drives to long on for one.
STUMPED! Ishan departs! Jacks does him in flight, Ishan wants to come down the track and go for a big shot, misses the turn and Rickelton does his job. Not a happy homecoming for the southpaw!
Ishan Kishan st Rickelton b Will Jacks 2(3)
Nitish Kumar Reddy in next. The first delivery turns from the off-stump line into his pads, guides it towards midwicket for one. Head swats the final delivery for a single to long on, Hardik could have cut it off from covers on a regular day, but not today with that ankle niggle.
Hardik Pandya into the attack. He’s wielded his slower deliveries well so far this IPL and he could really get the wickets on this pitch. He starts with a wayward wide outside off.
Head pulls the first legal ball to deep square leg for one, again outside off, not too much pace, Head has to drag this all the way across. FOUR for Abhishek! A full toss outside off, Abhishek slices this over point.
Hardik Pandya has hurt his ankle on this delivery. He’s hobbling and immediately calls for the physio. Does not look good, he’s getting his left ankle taped at the moment. He’s okay for now. Goes back to the top of his run up.
WICKET! What has that taping done to Pandya? Wide outside off, Abhishek cuts this over point but the deep cover fielder gets under this and completes a good, low catch.
Abhishek Sharma c Bawa b Hardik 40 (28)
Ishan Kishan in at three. He gets a short ball first up, pulls it to deep midwicket for one run. FOUR! Another slower ball, outside off, Head slashes hard at this, does not time it but gets just about enough to beat the backward point fielder. A low full toss, Head slices to deep covers for one.
Will Jacks with his off spin now. He starts outside the off stump to Head, who plays with the turn and drives to deep covers for one. An edge for Abhishek through third man, he is trying to drive hard at this, the ball turns and takes the edge, no slip means the chance goes begging, one run.
FOUR! Head charges down and heaves this straight back over the bowler’s head. Head is beaten by turn on the fourth. The fifth is floated on the off-stump line, Head plays inside out over covers, picks a single. Abhishek tries to cut the last delivery, comes on straight and gets an under edge, no run.
Bumrah again. A slower ball to Head, back-of-a-length, Head swings hard and misses. The second delivery is slightly wider, Head gets an inside edge trying to play through the off side, one run. A yorker to Abhishek, drives it to covers and completes a quick single.
Another delivery in the block hole, Head swings across the line, gets an inside edge onto his pads, no run. The fifth is a low full toss, Head drives but covers fields this. Head drives the final delivery which extra covers cuts off just outside the ring, a single completed.
Chahar to Abhishek, no run, full outside off but a slower one, Abhishek takes a hearty swing at this but is beaten. A bouncer on the second, Abhishek tries to ramp this but there’s no pace on offer, misses his shot.
FOUR! Abhishek gets a delivery in the block hole on the off stump line, opens the bat face to pick the gap between backward point and cover-point. FOUR more! Abhishek comes down and heaves this length ball over covers.
FOUR! The fifth delivery is slight shorter in length, comes on the midrif for Abhishek who swats this over covers again. CHANCE again! Slower ball outside off, Abhishek slashes but reads the pace late, this hangs in the air for a while but just about beats the cover fielder, two runs. 14 runs from the over.
Jasprit Bumrah for the fourth over. Abhishek to face him. A slower ball outside off, Abhishek looks to drive through the off side, beaten by the change of pace. The second is a yorker, Abhishek comes across the stumps and taps to mid off for a single.
Bumrah to Head, again rolls the fingers as he delivers, at the off stump, Head places this to deep point, picks one. FOUR for Abhishek! Wide outside off, Abhishek shuffles to his off side and swipes through the on side, gets an edge over the keeper.
Bumrah continues to take the pace off, an off-cutter on the off stump, Abhishek defends. On the pads for the last delivery, Abhishek flicks it on the up, but there’s a deep square leg to protect the boundary, just one run.
Chahar to Abhishek, starts with a wide down leg.
Chahar goes wide of off this time, length ball, there to be pulled but Abhishek is beaten by the slightest of movement in the air. Abhishek is able to pull the second delivery, but only to the midwicket fielder, another dot ball.
A third straight dot ball. Abhishek charges down but Chahar keeps this wide of off stump, Abhishek slashes but the ball is well outside his reach, Rickelton collects. FOUR! Full and on the middle-stump line, Abhishek chips this down the ground.
CHANCE! Abhishek survives again! He is surprised by the bounce on this, it comes into his body from a length, swings at it blindly through the on side and loses the bottom hand, falls just short of midwicket. Karn Sharma has split his webbing on his right hand and has gone off the field.
A wide next! Chahar tries a bouncer but bowls too high. A slower ball to close the over, Abhishek guides it to long on despite swinging across the line, one run.
Trent Boult in action now.
FOUR! Abhishek comes down the wicket, Boult angles into his pads but Abhishek presents a full-faced drive to beat mid on. The third delivery is again on the pads, this time slightly higher up for Abhishek which allows him to work this away to fine leg, one run.
A wide down the leg side to Head. BEATEN! A back-of-a-length ball, Head goes for a pull shot, there’s not enough bounce on that, goes under Head’s bat. CHANCE! A full delivery, Head wants to heave this over covers, the bat turns in his hands. He’s lucky to see this fall short of covers.
FOUR! Head finally gets one from the middle of his bat, another full delivery, drills it straight and well wide of mid off.
Deepak Chahar will bowl the first over. Abhishek will be on strike.
DROPPED! First ball and the thrill begins! Abhishek charges down to this delivery moving away from him, swings and gets an edge to Will Jacks at first slip, bursts through his hands. Chahar is livid! Two runs from that. A drive past mid off on the next for one run.
Travis Head now, gets this length delivery angling across on the off-stump line, defends it. FALLS SHORT! A second drop in this over. The fourth delivery is full and on the pads, Head plays across the line and hits towards midwicket where Karn Sharma dives in front but cannot get under the ball.
One overthrow! Everything happening in this over. Head punches through point where Naman Dhir fields and sends a wayward throw towards Ryan Rickelton. Both the keeper and Will Jacks fail to collect it and the batters run a single by the time fine leg fields this.
A yorker wide outside off to finish the over, Abhishek digs it out through point, gets one run.
Abhishek Sharma would be expected to emulate his hitting from the match against Punjab Kings. Travis Head had to play second fiddle to Abhishek that day, SRH would be the last to complain if he takes the charge against MI today.
The pitch was watered this morning and looks damp. It’s a good-looking pitch, to be honest. Yes, there’s a little bit of moisture. Beautiful coverage of grass. I’m expecting it to play consistently, the bounce will be consistent. There might be spin from one end which is dry. I imagine both teams will want to chase. It’s going to be good for quicks with the new ball, a little bit of spin and good for batting.

That’s fine. It looks a pretty good wicket. Same side. I think Abhi is still looking at the highlights. But we had a nice break, couple of practice sessions and here we are, five days go like that.
We are going to bowl first. I think it is a lot to do with the dew, last night there was dew and always at the Wankhede it is better to bat second. Same side. Everyone knew we had to give it all and that made us close. That’s depending on the situation we will do that, we back all the batters in our team. He is fine. We don’t need to worry about Jasprit Bumrah.
Hardik Pandya wins the toss and Mumbai Indians will bowl first.
